Larry Engle, Treasures Through Time - Central Virginia Coin, Charlottesville, Va., reports a new discovery similar to the extremely rare Criswell 6B Virginia 1862 $100 Inverted C protectors. It’s a $50 Virginia Treasury Note with orange L ($50) protector inverted, which is to be listed in the next edition of
Southern States Currency by Hugh Shull.
The extremely rare and choice condition note came out of a recent find of Virginia treasury notes tucked away for many years in Virginia. Also found were a couple of Cr.7a notes, “very rare with counter and L protector in red,” and a cut sheet of four Cr.7 notes, “plate positions A, B, C & D for the avid collector and a couple of pairs for the poker players”—all in About to Choice Uncirculated.
